SPI Digital Health: As Optum’s EMIS Deal Looms, First Databank Takes its Last Stand
Published: August 18, 2023
We’re another step closer to finding out if Optum’s acquisition of EMIS will happen. Last week, the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) provisionally cleared the £1.2B ($1.5B) deal following an in-depth investigation around its potential impact on the market’s competitive environment.
In a report published last week, the CMA concluded that the merger would not cause a Significant Lessening of Competition (SLC) in the UK’s medicines optimisation (MO), population health management (PHM) and wider EHR markets. The CMA has now invited final representations to be submitted by 1 September, with a final report to be issued on 5 October.
