SPI Digital Health: Telcos’ Long Search for Healthcare Success Blueprint Continues

Recent strategic moves by BT and Vodafone (in the UK) and KPN (Netherlands) confirm the persistent determination of telecoms firms (telcos) to find new, and profitable, routes into healthcare. 

Last month, BT launched its new ‘Virtual Wards’ programme which, it says, will provide the NHS and other healthcare providers with patient care apps, AI monitoring and online consultations capabilities supplied by third-parties. This followed news that Vodafone had launched a new division, Vodafone in Health, which will effectively be a consultant to UK healthcare providers exploring technology to improve patient outcomes.
