Signify Premium Insight: NHS AI Deployment Platform: Bold, but is it Wise?

The UK’s National Health Service (NHS) has recently formally announced its plans to pilot an AI deployment platform at two imaging networks.

The deployment platform should allow NHS sites to easily incorporate medical imaging AI into their medical imaging workflows, with the pilot deployments designed to test the new cloud-based platform and enable the NHS to understand how to safely deploy AI at scale.

The NHS will hope that the adoption of an AI deployment platform will also remove the need for local deployments, while also enabling the health service to test individual algorithm’s performance, and ensure they continue to meet regulations post-deployment.

While these are all sensible targets for the health service to hold, the question is, why hasn’t the health service adopted one of the many commercially available AI deployment platforms, and is instead choosing to develop its own?
