Signify Premium Insight: Not NICE! AI’s Evidence Gap

AI’s march forward has, over recent years, seemed unstoppable. The number of algorithm developers has grown rapidly, a plethora of solutions have now been approved by regulators for use in hospitals, and hospitals are taking strides toward greater adoption.

There has, over the past few years been a slew of articles and announcements detailing the effectiveness of such tools, with the question of how well new AI solutions work, seeming to have been answered.

This smooth sailing has, for some vendors at least, recently been interrupted by a report from the UK’s National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), which found that by some metrics, the evidence for some chest X-ray solutions is wanting.
