GE HealthCare has recently entered into an agreement, which will see the healthtech vendor take a leading role in a package of $60bn of investments into Kazakhstan, targeting several key areas including the localisation of medical equipment production.
The agreement, which was signed by Kazakhstani president, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, will see the American vendor first localise the production of ultrasound systems, with subsequent production of angiography, systems, mammography systems, and CT scanners.
While a boon for GE HealthCare, the move also comes as Kazakhstan targets domestic production of medical equipment and pharmaceuticals to 50% by 2025; a practice which could be a headache for medical imaging vendors, and one which is becoming more common across the world.
