Signify Premium Insight: Top Five Predictions in 2021 for Imaging Modality Markets

Published: January 28, 2021

Predicting the future is a difficult task. In December 2019, few could have foreseen the events of 2020. The economic fallout, the restrictions on movement and congregation, and the disruptions to working patterns all seemed like the plot points of a film rather than reality. Despite this uncertainty, Signify Research’s market expertise means that, in the realm of medical imaging technology at least, there are several trends we can confidently expect in 2021.

Expanded access to medical imaging

Over the course of 2020, several systems were released which unshackled imaging hardware from the designated rooms that have traditionally housed it. Both Hyperfine and Synaptive Medical for example offer relatively small and portable MRI systems which can be easily manoeuvred around a hospital’s hallways and taken directly to a patient’s bedside, rather than a patient having to travel to a different department for imaging. Similarly, at RSNA Siemens also announced On.site, a version of its SOMATOM CT scanner, which brings head scanning capability to a patient’s bedside.
