There are many reasons that, at present, medical imaging vendors may be feeling apprehensive. Apart from the exceptional tumult that defined the coronavirus pandemic, broader economic conditions have, for the most part, been placid for more than a decade. Now, however, challenges abound on every front. Vendors’ customers are dealing with enormous backlogs of patients whose elective care has been postponed, while the emergency funding that supported them during the pandemic could be discontinued at any moment. Inflationary pressures are rising, forcing the cost of raw materials and components higher, energy costs have increased dramatically, significantly impacting the cost of manufacture and transport, while lingering logistics challenges and supply chain issues are also making it hard to execute any measures to fight these battles.
Perhaps surprisingly, however, this abundance of headwinds hasn’t outwardly impacted the results of most key medical imaging vendors, with the figures, for the most part, painting a relatively robust picture.
