Big data analytics has dominated the imaging market headlines in recent times. This emerging sector may appear tantalising and visionary, but much of the hype is based on conceptual discussion, and there is a lack of substance and evidence about how big data analytics can be applied to mainstream use in radiology.

Following an initial period of uncertainty, Vendor Neutral Archives (VNA) are now better understood by health providers, and more available. Moreover, their introduction and adoption signalled a market transition, expanding the focus of providers and vendors to the management and use of clinical content thus far excluded by electronic medical records.

Hyland is a relatively new name in terms of clinical and imaging IT. It is probably better known for information management platforms, selling into financial services, government, insurance and healthcare.
