19th January 2021 – Written by Bhvita Jani – Featured on Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiology – With the postponement of non-essential elective surgeries and medical procedures in 2020 to conserve medical resources for COVID-19 patients during the start of the pandemic, cardiovascular procedures were severely impacted. The increased costs of caring for COVID patients, personal protective equipment (PPE) and the loss of elective procedure revenue caused a massive financial burden on healthcare providers. This is expected to result in reduced capital expenditure budgets for imaging equipment, including interventional angiography imaging systems and surgical mobile C-arm X-ray systems.

The Medical FPD Market Reaches 78,000 units
The medical FPD market, totalling just under 78,000 units in 2022, witnessed a slight retraction in both units and revenue. The most significant decline was seen in mobile general radiography, which was attributed to a surplus during the pandemic. A decline was also seen for mammography due to a shortage of semi-conductors, inflation hikes, and a market correction following elevated investment in breast imaging systems in 2021 as budgets returned post-COVID. However, the resurgence of elective procedures, coupled with pent-up demand, contributed to the positive uptake of mobile C-arm technology.
