SPI Medical Imaging: iQ Test: Can a New Device Change Butterfly Network’s Fortunes?

Published 30/01/2024

Butterfly Network announced the FDA clearance of its next-generation handheld point-of-care ultrasound system, Butterfly iQ3, in early January. The new device is the company’s third iteration of its semiconductor-based single-probe, whole-body ultrasound system.

Butterfly Network claims the iQ3 will deliver double the data processing speed for optimised image resolution, sensitivity and penetration, as well as faster 3D capabilities to power automated image capture modes: iQ Slice and iQ Fan.

Will this new device be enough to steady the ship for the troubled company, and did its CEO say a little too much at a recent presentation at the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference?
