SPI Medical Imaging: Lunit’s Exemplary Acquisition of Volpara

In December 2023, Lunit announced its agreement to acquire breast imaging software vendor Volpara Health. Lunit will purchase all 254 million of Volpara’s shares at a price of AUD 1.15 per share, in a deal worth around AUD 292 million (USD 193 million). Lunit believes that the acquisition will position the combined entity to lead innovation in cancer diagnostics and therapeutics.

This deal represents a significant move for both companies; however, it also has important ramifications for the medical imaging AI market as a whole and sets precedents for future acquisitions.
