SPI Medical Imaging: Stagnation and Innovation in Accessible Ultrasound Solutions

Published 20/03/2024

The 2024 European Congress of Radiology served as the venue for the launch of several new products in medical imaging modalities, with both GE HealthCare and Canon announcing their latest offerings in ultrasound. GE HealthCare launched LOGIQ Totus, touted as a comprehensive ultrasound offering at a reasonable price point, and Canon announced its Aplio ME, boasting “excellent image quality, on par with other systems higher in the range.

These new products follow similar launches in the last year from vendors including Esaote and Siemens Healthineers, suggesting an increasing focus toward the lower price point of vendors’ portfolios. However, as this segment grows ever more competitive, the lack of innovation in the market may hinder vendors’ attempts to distinguish their more accessible offerings.
